In 1990 the Melrose Rugby Club accorded Randwick Rugby Club the singular honour of an invitation to its one hundredth Melrose Sevens in Scotland. Twenty clubs took part, including Racing Club of Paris, Harlequins and London Scottish from outside of Scotland. After a number of training sessions over the summer and Sevens Tournaments at Penrith and Kiama, the final squad of ten players were: Gavin Boneham, David Campese, Michael Cheika, Anthony Dwyer, Mark Ella, John Flett, John Maxwell (Captain / Coach), Acura Niuqila, Darren Phillips and Lloyd Walker. John Howard was the manager and Stuart Wheeler, the assistant manager. The results of the four matches played were as follows: v Glasgow won 30-0; v Edinburgh Academicals won 20-6, v Melrose won 16-15 and v Kelso (final) won 26-8. A crowd of about 20,000 remained for the presentation.
