Randwick District Rugby Union Football Club (RDRUFC) regrets to announce that the full time General Manager's role has been made redundant and consequently Tony Lewis will be leaving the club after an orderly hand-over.
Tony was employed as General Manager of the Randwick District Rugby Union Football Club in May 2010.
He has been a hardworking, tenacious General Manager, who greatly enjoyed working for the Galloping Greens and was a notable advocate of both the code and grassroots rugby throughout his tenure.
Tony has had a lifelong involvement in Rugby, notably as a winger for the Otago Province in NZ in its glory days, a professional coach in the UK and as General Manager at Randwick.
In an incredibly tough operating environment for Premiership Club Rugby, the President and Board of the RDRUFC concluded that the employment of a full time GM was unsustainable, especially given the recent funding cuts to Premiership Clubs by the Australian Rugby Union.
The RDRUFC noted other Clubs have already been forced into cutbacks and spent time forensically testing budget forecasts for 2013 against this testing economic environment. Post Tony's departure, the RDRUFC will pool the skills of our highly talented football department, together with our invaluable volunteers to fill the void of no full-time General Manager in 2013.
President of the RDRUFC, World Cup winning coach Bob Dwyer paid tribute to Tony's passionate application to his role as GM at the famous Randwick Club.
" Decisions like this are never easy, neither to deliver nor to receive, and especially when the employee has applied himself with passion and commitment. Tony did just this, but the clear financial situation is that this club could not continue to operate unless strict financial measures were put in place immediately. We thank Tony for his commitment. He leaves the club well organised to face its future."
The President, Board and players at Randwick wish Tony all the best in his future career and thank him sincerely for his commitment and efforts during his tenure at our famous Club.
