After our last game at home last week against University we head to North Sydney Oval for the final round game of the competition and our third Super Saturday in a row.
It was a good day out for Randwick last week winning 5 from 7 games against University.
The two losses came with our bookends of the Club 1st grade and 3rd Grade colts.
The performance of first grade was one of our weakest of the year. We had a few players missing from first grade but cannot make excuses, the other grade teams showed us the template for success against Uni.
Unfortunately, our usually reliable scrum was under pres-sure and this coincided with a misfiring lineout to limit our opportunities. The loss of Harry Tyson at five eight in the first 15 minutes put the team under added pressure.
The highlight of the game was the opportunity to see two of our young juniors, straight out of school and currently playing colts make their debuts for Randwick 1st grade.
Congratulations to both Will Harrison and Ben Donaldson on their debuts and what we all hope are long careers in the myrtle green. Lachlan Miller also made his run on de-but and Ryan Powter made his debut off the bench.
Congratulations also to the Colts on a wonderful year of rugby so far winning the Colts Club Championship and Minor Premiership undefeated in 1st and 2nd Grade Colts.
This is something that the current coaching team and all involved with the Randwick Academy including Jim Dubos and the coaches can be extremely proud of. The list of players that have come through the program is extensive and they are the future of this great Club.
Congratulations to Christian Poidevin, Tom Serhon, Marco Bell, Liam Cornish, Latham James, Will McCormick, Harrison Stein, Joel Ellis, Matt Stead, Sione Nikau, Zac Carr, Harrison Smith, Ben Howard, Guy Beynon, Oliver Mahoney, Lachie Wallace, Daniel Szabo, Michael Antoniades, Duncan Evans, Richard Tahaafe, Liam Smith, Finn Wright and Sam Cantarella
This Sunday the 12th of August also sees our Randwick Warriors hosting a Super Sunday with all 8 teams under 13-16s and the Clovelly U 12s playing at Nagle Park.
I encourage you to pop into Nagle to support our Randwick Juniors for an hour or two, buy a sausage, wear your club kit, see our juniors sing McNamara’s Band.
These kids are future Wicks and lots of our current Randwick Players including first grade debutants Tom Wong, Will Harrison, Ben Donaldson, Justin Cooper and Pat Pellegrini have been through our junior program.
It is also great to see our Randwick Community banding together on Wednesday 15th August to support 12 year old Hugo who was diagnosed with Leukaemia. There will be a Headshave that our village club the Coogee Seahorses will be hosting.
With the first game this Saturday starting early, you can look forward to a full day of competitive rugby with 3rd and 4th grade playing for finals spots.
While we have some recognisable first grade players still on the injured list, there is no lack of effort and we will def-initely look to improve our performance. All our teams have worked hard this week as they prepare for the final round and upcoming finals series.
We are looking for wins in all grades as we head into the last round. Get behind the Club, be vocal, we need you to support your team and enjoy the rugby on Saturday and Sunday as our Galloping Greens get out on the field.
Up the Wicks!
