Is your life based only on rugby or do you have other interests? What are the sacrifices you have to do to play at this professional level?
At the moment I'm currently studying a Bachelor of Science at the University of New South Wales alongside playing rugby, and the sacrifices you have to make are endless but I think that my parents and family have also made sacrifices such as sending me away for secondary schooling and supporting my ambitions with rugby.
What does it mean for you to play with the shirt of your country?
It cannot be put into words the honour I feel when I put on the Australian jersey but I think the most meaningful thing to me is that I understand I'm only borrowing the jersey, people have worn the jersey before me and people will wear the jersey after me so I know I need to do the best I can in it before my time is up.
Is the first time that you participate at World U20 Championship? What do you think about the structures dedicated to rugby that you have seen here in Italy?
Yeah it's the first time I've been fortunate enough to play for the Australian U20's. I think the facilities that we have used here are exceptional and the crowd support and turn outs to each game has been very surprising to say the least. I initially thought that rugby over here didn't have that large of a fan base but I now see that it does and I think it's a very promising sport in Italy that is gaining in popularity. The stadiums are plenty big enough and the fields are good, creates a good atmosphere.
About a compare with soccer... In Italy football is the most popular sport and the footballers are almost impossible to contact for common people. Does It also happen to rugby players in high-level championships (like Super Rugby, I think) to feel like a star, or in rugby is easier to maintain the humbleness?
Not at all, Super Rugby teams often go out to school and run camps, also have fan games.
Are you satisfied about the results obtained by Australia u20 in this tournament? Which team do you think will win the tournament?
I think our results were both positive leading into the South Africa game, unfortunately we didn't perform that well but our mental strength to turn that around and beat Scotland has brought back that positive vibe in camp. I think England are a very clinical side and play smart rugby but New Zealand's back row and backs will be hard to handle, so my pick is New Zealand.
