Across NSW, nature turned on a torrent of furious weather for the long weekend. Not to be deterred, the running rugby rampagers of Randwick pulled on their boots and took on all-comers in their bids to earn NSWJRU State Champion medals. Despite injury, change of game plan, soggy pitches and hoarse coaches, the long weekend was one with elements of success for all the Randwick junior rep teams, some reaching Semi-Finals and the U12s, U11 title-holders of 2010, attaining the crown of Champion. The Under 12s were honoured to be presented their medals from General Sir Peter Cosgrove AC MC (Retd), at the post-game ceremony. The Wicks' long weekend campaign was preceded by hours of selection try-outs, training, trial games and planning - all of which was coordinated and steered by a band of myrtle-green volunteers and supporters. In particular, recognition of the contribution of the Randwick Rugby Development Officer, Jim Dubos, must be made and we also thank Jon Collins personally for paying the salary of the Development Officer. Jim's input to the entire operation was invaluable. Whilst reaching the top of the tree was not possible for all, every junior galloping green will have benefited from the State Champs experience and, no doubt, the boys will be champing at the bit to take on battle in 2012. Sydney vs Country Rugby at Coogee Oval 11 June A great night was enjoyed by all when NSW Country came to Coogee Oval and Brook St last weekend for their team dinner. A number of country dignitaries also enjoyed a reunion at Brook St on Friday night, entertained by the King, aka Simon Poidevin. Bob Wilson from Rugby News noted a few old mates from the bush were having a beer at the Randwick Rugby Club prior to the Sydney vs. Country fixture. One of them said to the other "I bought a new fishing rod from BFC (Boating, Fishing and Camping) last week". His mate replied "Yeah, great but I prefer to shop at BWS (Beer, Wine & Spirits)".
