This weekend's game Randwick vs. Sydney University

Randwick team Lists: Grade  >...... Colts >......

Colts at Coogee Oval - Be there to support them!

Saturday 28 May 2011
SYDNEY UNIVERSITY (4) v RANDWICK (5)
University Oval No.1 - 3:10pm Live ABC TV

Apart from local derbies, arguably the fiercest rivalry in Sydney Premier Rugby will be contested in the ABC TV Game of the Day with Sydney University hosting Randwick at University Oval No.1.

The Students have downed Randwick on Grand Final day to claim their last three premierships and the Galloping Greens will be determined to exact some revenge when they hit campus on Saturday.

The longer Super Rugby season was expected to challenge Uni's ability to put themselves in a strong position early in the year, however they are well and truly on track for a solid defence, sitting in fourth position approaching the halfway mark.

The Students are coming off back-to-back wins against Souths and Gordon but face a Randwick side which has at times shown the skill they are renowned for.

The Wicks have lost HSBC Waratahs flyer Atieli Pakalani, however he has been replaced by another speedster with Frankie Fainifo partnering Clinton Sills on the wing.

No 1 Oval:

3.10pm - 1st Grade

1.25pm - 2nd Grade

12.10pm - 3rd Grade

10.55am -  4th Grade

Sponsors Coogee Oval - Sponsors Tent

speed_and_kevin_phibbs_ladies_day

The game against Souths brought the crowd to Coogee Oval. The sponsors' tent had over 120 people in attendance, our largest crowd of the season so far, out enjoying Ladies Day, the fabulous Coogee sunshine and the best view of running rugby in Sydney.

It was great to welcome Kara Smith and her team from Body Science, the hydration station and compression garment sponsors for Randwick Rugby. It was also good to see Michael Girvan and his team from Girvan Waugh. Girvan Waugh is the sponsor of the ‘Sponsors Tent and TV tower'. Also in attendance was Stephen Donnelley from Coates Hire - a division of the Allight Sykes group. Stephen hosted a large group which included Julie Blomberg - whose father Col Windon was inducted in the Randwick Hall of Fame in 2010.

A warm welcome also to Steve Kelly from ‘Grinners Catering' enjoying the culinary delights of the ‘Sponsors Tent' - normally Steve and his crew are serving the delicious food but, last week, Steve hosted his table. I am sure he enjoyed the other side of the table for a change. Barwick Estate Wines, as always, were the drinks of choice in the Sponsors' Tent.

Damien Maree from CA Technologies was again the centre of attention at his table - motivating the players with his humor and desire for the Galloping Greens.

The ‘Life Members' were also attendees at the tent on Saturday - following their quarterly meeting on Friday night. Peter Court took up the host's baton with Bob Outterside holding fast on how rugby should be played. His wisdom and passion for all things ‘myrtle green' is a vision to behold!

Finally Coogee Oval hosted two celebrated guests in Michael Clark and Geoff Huegill. They were guests of the club and delighted the ladies at ‘Ladies Day' posing for photos and drawing the raffle tickets.

The highlight was the magnificent win by the Randwick First grade, with enthusiastic efforts from all Colts and Grade teams posting a close to 100% win rate.

Sponsor Spotlight - Peters of Kensington Why in the world would you shop anywhere else?

peters_jersey_photo_2011

Peter's of Kensington have been the major sponsor of the Randwick District Rugby Union Football club for many years. The club is indebted to Peter Satouris and family for their generous financial support of the club. The sponsorship is very significant but another factor which is often lost on the club is the large numbers of players Peter has employed and currently employs.

The new 2011 Randwick Rugby jersey proudly displays the colours of Peter's.

Peter's of Kensington is packed with the world's most famous names...at prices that will surprise you. How do we do it? Well, that's our secret...but all you need to know is that at Peter's of Kensington, you can be assured that you'll always get the best, for the best price.

A visit to Peter's of Kensington is a treat. Spend the day here, have lunch in the coffee shop, talk with our friendly, enthusiastic, knowledgeable staff members. And, once the day's over, walk out the door with an armful of our funky, pink Peter's shopping bags. At Peter's of Kensington, our customers mean everything to us.

Why would a supporter of the ‘Galloping Greens' shop anywhere else? We encourage all players, supporters and members to visit http://www.petersofkensington.com.au

Volunteer of the Week - Timothy Burgess Coogee Oval Ground Announcer

Interest in rugby was sparked when I started at St Josephs College, Hunters Hill 1990 where rugby is more a religion than religion itself.

Played rugby for Joeys from under 12s ending with 2nds and 3rds in 1995; after school played with Southern Districts.

Favourite players to watch
Randwick: Tim Wright he's a local product and great leader on and off the field
Super 15: Kurtley Beale, great player with a X factor
Wallabies: Quade Cooper hitting a good patch of play leading into the World cup

Best thing about announcing at Coogee is meeting a lot of the players and supporters and also having the ability to give Sydney Uni supporters some stick and make them choke on the cucumber sandwiches.

Best country visited would have to be Russia because of the women, the culture, the women, the vodka and the women.

Game day story........ Sydney Uni supporter trying to heckle me before I told him to "sit down, shut up and have another pie, you clown"; the Sydney Uni crowd then applauding me for getting this goose to shut his mouth for the rest of the game. Handshakes and thank yous given to me after the game by Uni.

Pre-match ritual comes from the book of Tommy Raudonikis: 12 cigarettes, 3 cans of red bull and a steak sandwich and I'm good to go!

Ladies Day review

The 2011 Randwick Rugby Club Ladies Day 21 May Coogee Oval

skippy_at_ladies_day_randwick_vs_southern_districts_coogee_ovalladies_day_2

This year Randwick Rugby decided to embark on two Ladies days, the first being on Saturday 21 May. The Wick's special ladies enjoyed the glorious sunshine and the unseasonally warm 22 degree day in their own Alice in Wonderland and Dr Seuss-inspired grandstand, whilst the Wicks faced a tough resistance on the field opposing Southern Districts.  DJ Haim held the day, cruising the sideline in his festival couch with music pumping and the lovely ladies enjoying beverages of the finest quality poured by the best in the business from the Randwick Rugby Club. Later in the afternoon, after watching fourth and third grade claim victory, we all settled back to watch Coach Morrison's finest take the field, whilst enjoying some star-spotting as Michael Clarke and Geoff Huegill  were amongst the Coogee faithful. After an exciting 80 minutes in which the Wicks claimed victory, the ladies enjoyed the last few beverages and tunes from Haim and our first Ladies day of the season came to a close. From my reporters in the field, all had a great day and I am looking forward to our next adventure in August. Hope to see you all there!

A huge thank you to Cameron McAusland and Anna Glynn from MLC, Jon Collins from Barwick Estate Wines, Haim Ayalon from DJ Solutions, Tony Lewis Randwick Rugby's General Manager, the Randwick Rugby Club Ladies Committee, Randwick Rugby Club staff,  the trio and lastly Kathy who all contributed to the success of Ladies Day.

When the Randwick Rugby General Manager completed a review of 2010 Sponsors, it was agreed that the club would look at ways to increase the exposure of sponsors in 2011. The club does a weekly sponsor spotlight in the newsletter and regularly informs followers on twitter about our sponsors.

In partnership with Anthony Nicloaou from Australian Sports & Events Signage the club has invested in broadcasting actual adverts for our sponsors. The Randwick Rugby club encourages you all to check out www.ases.net.au For any signage, Anthony will only be too happy to assist.
