Craig Morrison's comments Penrith deserved the win I wrote the following last week prior to the Penrith match. "Tomorrow's clash with Penrith will be a real test of our mental application as any complacency will surely be punished by the most improved team in the 2010 Shute Shield. We are confident however ... if we play to our strengths and fix our defensive lapses from last weekend". This did not happen last Saturday and this week has seen a lot of soul searching from all associated with what was an embarrassing performance. Click to read more > ....... Randwick in print - Sponsors on show A quick update on media exposure for Randwick Rugby Club and the club's valued sponsors. Thanks to ABC TV we are having our 3rd game live on this Saturday v Northern Suburbs. To date we have had live TV exposure against Eastwood (T.G. Millner), Easts (Coogee Oval) and Norths (North Sydney Oval). We have also received excellent exposure for our valued jersey sponsors in 2011 through Sydney Morning Herald, Daily Telegraph, The Australian, Rugby News and Southern Courier, an example Jamie Pandaram story March 30, 2011. We also received massive exposure for the ‘Sponsors Season Launch' which Michael Clarke attended. We were on Ten, Fox Sports News and all major dailies. The TV stories were significant stories on the channels. This year, at the Coogee Oval home games, we have also made available advertising on a 10 metre LED screen for sponsors and interested advertisers. We have received incredible feedback on the screen from ABC TV, supporters and members. Please visit the club's website www.randwickrugby.com.au to keep up with the club news. You will be in good company. We have enjoyed a huge increase in the number of hits this year especially following the e-mail out of our weekly newsletter. We have monitored that the traffic is also viewing the photo gallery in huge volume. Randwick supporters and sponsors are welcome to have adverts, specials or messages published on the Randwick Rugby web page and in the weekly newsletter. The Randwick Rugby Club have also set up a twitter page - we use this as a communication medium to supporters but are always delighted to inform our twitter followers of our sponsors' news and any special events you may have. I encourage you to follow @GallopingGreens on twitter. All Saturday match day scores are updated every ten (10) minutes. Finally I encourage you to lock 21 July 2011 in to your diaries and book a table at the ‘Hall of Fame' lunch. Last year the lunch was a great occasion and all attending said it was the sporting lunch of the year in 2010. There are a number of possibilities for company exposure at the event. Tony Lewis, Randwick Rugby general manager, would be delighted to discuss this with you. Please ring Tony on 0434 085 676. Also feel free to email the invite to colleagues, business partners, family and friends.
Myrtle Green player news Randwick Rugby wishes Nathan McMahon, aka ‘Coma', all the best after his serious neck injury last week. Nathan suffered spinal concussion and spent 3 nights in hospital. By all accounts he is in good hands and recovering well. Oldest living Wallaby Gordon Stone From Greg Growden's Ruck & Maul SMH column "A large group of ex-Test players believe Eric Tweedale, who has just turned 90, is the oldest living Wallaby, prompting celebrations at a reunion last week. But Tweedale is a mere pup as R&M has been informed that Gordon Stone, who has just turned 97, holds that honour. Stone, who played one Test against the All Blacks in 1938, is, according to his family, in good health, lives in Bowral, follows rugby with great interest, and unlike his son, reads without the need of glasses." Notes from John Brewer's Randwick Rugby History :- Gordon Stone, an outstanding scrum half, joined Randwick in 1934 and played over 100 games for the club from 1934 to 1940. Playing in the 1934, 1938 and 1940 first-grade premiership-winning sides he also appeared 7 times for NSW. He coached the Randwick first grade side in 1954 and also turned his hand to cricket, regularly playing in the Randwick first grade side.
