Don't miss - RANDWICK (7) v PENRITH (12)
Coogee Oval - 3:00 pm

Randwick sits mid-table after five rounds and will be eyeing off a place in the top six going into their home game against Penrith.

Wing Clinton Sills fits perfectly into the traditional game of the Galloping Greens and if the Wicks can get on top early the speedster will only need the smallest of holes to make the Emus pay.

Penrith are currently propping up the ladder but have been far from disgraced over the opening month of competition. They are up against it in a tough road trip but their resolve will ensure their opponents won't take them lightly.

The matches at Coogee this Saturday include an opportunity to watch 3rd grade colts this week at Coogee Oval

Coaches corner

Penrith deserve respect

Tomorrow's clash with Penrith will be a real test of our mental application as any complacency will surely be punished by the most improved team in the 2010 Shute Shield.

We are confident however that if we play to our strengths and fix our defensive lapses from last weekend, it will be a good day for Randwick at Coogee Oval.

Bring on the sunshine.

Last week's game report: Promising signs against West Harbour

The win against West Harbour showed what we can do when we recycle ball quickly and attack the defensive line with pace and confidence. We came out of the blocks running and after ten minutes had laid on two well constructed tries, along with a penalty to lead 17-0.

Complacency for significant periods in previous games has been our downfall. After a positive start we cruised for the next twenty minutes allowing West Harbour back into the contest with two tries before asserting ourselves at the back end of the half with two more tries for a 38-17 half time lead. Defence was not the highlight from either side but at half time we had played 20 good minutes and scored 38 points, a contrasting result to our attacking efforts in recent weeks.

The final score line of 44-32 indicates that, once again, we took the foot well off the pedal in the second half and allowed Wests to inch their way back, the score at one stage getting to 38-32 before we took control in the last 15 minutes and closed the game with two penalties.

Some very promising signs but also a wake up call that we have to play 80 minutes, not 35 minutes if we are to reach our full potential.

First Colts:  Won 23-7

23-7 remain undefeated and are now 5 from 5

After a huge win in the local derby v Easts, the team went into this game with the goal to go from 5 from 5 knowing we have a break this week. We started the game defending well however, some soft tackles close to the line meant the Wests' huge pack was able to score the first points. We managed to get ourselves into the game and, with strong runs and counter attack from Tom Redden and Matt Meoli, we were starting to run the big Wests pack around. After the break we started to play some great rugby and scored 23 unanswered points. We were a little flat throughout, playing well only in patches. We won' ugly' today and at times took the wrong option but probably learnt more from this game as a group. We have had an outstanding start to the season and now sit on top of the table after five rounds. This is a fantastic start to the season and the hard work is starting to pay off. A week's rest this week and then we take on ‘middle of the table' Norths at home. Well done gents - a big two week block ahead!

Points this week 3 points- Tom Redden, 2 points- Jesse Harris and 1 point - Tom Connor

Second Colts:  lost 11-10

Seconds colts slumped to their 3rd straight loss by only 1 point to a typical West Harbour team with a huge pack and hard running backs but, to the credit of the team, they put in a whole-hearted effort to contain Wests for most of the game only to lose on the bell when a penalty kick went wide of the posts. Some ill discipline and a last minute omission of our no.10 Alex Mides due to illness impacted on the structured running of the backline and organising of the forwards but, to the credit of the guys who filled in, we nearly got away with a win. More work on discipline and fitness and the return of some injured players will see us back in the winner's circle after the bye. Congratulations to 1st grade and their coaches for another great win

Points this week went to: 3 points- Michael Celona, 2 points-Tim Murray and 1 point- Cameron Terry

Third Colts: lost 14 - 10

One coach hit the bottle; the other went for the pills and the third a straight jacket, while the players hit their heads against the wall. In what was another great escape by the opposition we got done by last year's premiers West Harbour 14-10. The score been locked up 7 all with tries to Chester Blaxell and a conversion  to Troy Jeffs  and all was in readiness for a boil over. With 12 minutes left and a penalty goal we led 10-7.

Unfortunately with only a minute remaining West Harbour cracked us and the ref blew the whistle for end of game. Great effort by all, as there were many changes to the team line up to 24 hours prior to kick off. We can see the players are all working hard on their game and full credit to them and the coaching team.

Next stop Coogee Oval against the mountain men of Penrith 9.30am kick off:  rise and shine early boys.   We're only seconds away from winning

Aristotle wrote "We are what we repeatedly do.  Excellence  then,  is not an act, but a habit"

Points this week went to: 3 points-Phillip South, 2 points- John Weatherall and 1 point- Max Kite

From the Fitz Files - ‘WORD OF MOUTH'

Some years ago, in his early 20s, Ray Hare was playing rugby with Randwick when he was hurt in a ruck at Chatswood Oval, becoming a C4 quadriplegic, requiring him to spend his waking hours on an elevated plank to avoid bed sores. Nevertheless, he avidly watches news/current affairs/sport every day, and - by use of holding a kind of knitting needle in his mouth and tapping away on his mobile phone, before transferring the words to his computer - has over the past 18 months written a film script. Former Herald reporter Jim Webster, who has read the script - which is of the Indiana Jones genre - reports it to be "excellent". He is looking to pass it on to any number of producers.
