Club News Congratulations to Tim Wright who will be running on this weekend for his 100th Grade game for the Galloping Greens. Nio Halangahu - Welcome back! Spotted in the Myrtle Green last weekend after training with Tonga Rugby Best wishes for a quick recovery to Lotu Taukeiaho, regarded as one of the 2011 Sydney Rugby team's most valued players in the recent games, recovering from surgery after a recent injury. Wishing everyone on the "Injured List" a speedy return to the paddock - Ben Allard, Tom Bennett, Dave Farrugia, Patrick Hodgetts, Al McFarland, Ben Meyers, Matt Nethery, Charlie O'Connor, Luke Parsons, Hugh Somerville, John Tamanika, Bevu Tuquiri, David Vizer and Andrew Waite. Ray Jennings, former Randwick player and coach, welcome back to the Galloping Greens. Ray is supporting Bill Davies coaching the mighty 5th grade. Sunday afternoon at the Rugga - Players' social function:- Hosted by Club Coach Craig Morrison and Club President, Anthony Bell, a good time was had by all with Colts mixing it up with Grade for a beer and Bill'n'Toni's best - over 100 delicious pizzas devoured by the hungry hordes! The players heard from Club Coach Craig Morrison, President Anthony Bell and the Club Captain, "Fridge", with an emphasis on club values, team effort and Craig's motto focussing on a "whole club approach" and the expectation and responsibility that goes with PULLING ON THE MYRTLE GREEN JERSEY. The players were enthusiastically entertained by guitar-playing Randwick player, Brendan Davis. Bring on the next social function! Wick's Club Coach visits Cape Town PARRAMATTA (11) v RANDWICK (8) at Granville Park (3:00pm) The Two Blues are a far-improved outfit in 2011 with an 18-point loss in round one an inaccurate indication of the game. Parramatta was forced to spend most of the game with 14 men - and some of it with 13 - and the Two Blues were still within a converted try going into the final stages. If they can stay within touch of Randwick down the stretch on Saturday they could pull off the upset of the season with the Galloping Greens last week surrendering a lead late in their loss to Warringah. The Wicks go into the match as hot favourites; however, they will need former Pirates fly half Jai Ayoub to create opportunities to take advantage of what is a talented backline. LAST MEETING TEAMS Coaches corner... Club Comment The first Round gave the Club a reasonable start to the season with Colts managing a clean sweep of Warringah at Latham Park and 3rd and 4th Grade convincing winners at Pittwater, however our top two grades failed to take advantage of opportunities and paid the ultimate price, losing narrowly in the 1st and 2nd grade fixtures. 1st Grade It was certainly not the start we were after in 1st grade and it's fair to say that we squandered four competition points in the dying minutes of a match that we could have won. With a number of new combinations in a side that had not really played together, we took far too long to get into the game mentally. We made mistakes in possession and penalties were also preventing us from gaining any momentum. Despite a strong southerly behind us in the first half we did not use it to any real advantage. Warringah certainly deserved their 10-3 half time lead. To the players' credit, these issues were dealt early in the second half and whilst the continuity of play lacked the cohesion that comes with playing together, everyone committed to a direct approach in attack and the support play started to create opportunities against a Warringah side that just hung in there. We went to a lead of 23-10 with not more than eight minutes to go and in possession down their end. Whilst we created many chances in the second half that we failed to convert into tries, this was a game I thought we might get away with. Warringah's dogged resistance paid off and on the back of poor ball security and again penalties from us, Warringah ran in two late tries from scrums, the last coming with a minute to go. Despite the loss, it was impressive to see Randwick's First grade team attend the after match function at Warringah. The players were complimented by the Warringah President for turning up en masse, smartly attired in their sponsor-decorated polo shirts. Changes in 1st Grade The task against Parramatta tomorrow at Granville will be no different. Luke Parsons was one of our best last week at half but a shoulder injury will keep him out and give young Liam Walker an opportunity in the top grade. We welcome back Toby Browne at inside centre and new players to the club, Geoff Ingram and Steven Noriega who make their 1st grade debut. Parramatta has had a shake up and we will be showing them every respect, something we did not show Warringah last week in the dying minutes. We expect an energetic crowd all supporting the home side and know that we need to play with discipline. You can expect that we will be doing everything physically possible to get our season going tomorrow afternoon. Club Focus The Club Championship is a real focus for the playing group this season and all grades will be doing their part this Saturday. Where are the Wicks? 9 April at Granville Oval vs Parramatta / Colts at Coogee Oval 16 April at T.G. Millner Field vs Eastwood / Colts at Coogee Oval 23 April first home game vs Easts at Coogee Oval. All Galloping Green supporters - be there for the big one! Also show-casing our junior teams, Randwick's future stars, before First grade kick-off. SUBBY-MARINERS The Subbies have started, and one of its stalwart clubs - Manly Savers - is no longer content with the traditional bus trip for away games. When appropriate they will instead go on boat trips, hiring a flotilla of water taxis. The big question is how to handle the inevitable ''roadside'' toilet break. A new club, Sydney Grammar Old Boys, began their season well last weekend, thumping Randwick fifths 39-15, on the same day the school won the Head of the River....for the 5th Grade draw click here Green-Flavoured Super Rugby wrap Burnt by Firepower, Mitchell flowers at Tahs Waratahs ready to seal deal with Kurtley Beale Club Rugby 2011 Kicks Off Around Australia
