Elsom and Hoiles still in casualty ward
Brumbies promote Hegarty as Moore sidelined18 Mar, 2011 08:28 AM
Marist junior Anthony Hegarty will graduate from the Brumbies Academy next weekend at the expense of hooker Stephen Moore, the latest addition to the ACT's injured forward brigade.
Moore was yesterday ruled out for six weeks with a syndesmosis injury in his left ankle, joining Wallabies captain Rocky Elsom (hamstring) and Stephen Hoiles (Achilles) in the casualty ward. Hoiles is on track to return against the Highlanders in round seven, while Moore and Elsom are hopeful of joining the team on its two-game tour of South Africa at the start of May. Huia Edmonds will be named at hooker to plug the gap left by Moore, with Hegarty to make his Super Rugby debut from the bench against the NSW Waratahs. And while admitting a debut against the club's fiercest rival while languishing near the bottom of the league would be a tough assignment, Hegarty was delighted to be closing in on a life-long goal. ''I went to Marist and just coming through all the junior ranks it's just always been a dream, I got my first jersey when I was in year four,'' Hegarty said. ''It's a tough time, it's a fresh week every week so you can't really dwell on what's happened in past weeks. ''We're a great team. There's always a good team culture and we all work together really hard. ''We'll be able to turn it around, there's only a few players out and there's always other players to slip in. ''Moorey's gone, we've got another Wallaby in Huia slipping into that role so you don't really lose much there.'' |
