Randwick Rugby Club Newsletter 18 February

2011 SEASON LAUNCH GOLF DAY

golf_day_2011_final_version_2

Dear Randwick Rugby Members and Players,
The Randwick Rugby Club Corporate Golf Day and Season Launch is on Wednesday 30 March at St Michael’s. The Club needs your support and assistance to ensure this event is a success. St Michael’s known as the "Jewel of the Pacific Coast", is a course bordered by the ocean and hilly native bush land. This gorgeous golf course offers great views, the layout is challenging, and the greens are large and fast. Reward yourself for getting around the 18 back at the Randwick Rugby Club with Bill and Toni’s Italian for lunch and be entertained by MC Mark Ella.

Please support the club by your attendance and pass this opportunity onto colleagues and friends. This event is
a fundraiser for the rugby club. In these difficult times for sporting clubs we need the support of all members and players.

From the Board Room and President, Michael Jorgenson.
“The RDRUFC Council have agreed that no player will be selected in any Randwick team for matches from 2 April if they have not paid their Club subs.”   The Club Coach, Craig Morrison, has been informed by the Council that no player will take the field in 2011 if subs are not paid.  The player subs payment only covers a fraction of the cost to the Club for each player to play for Randwick.

WICKS WORK-OUT

The Randwick squad headed north to a local Youth Camp at Kincumber last weekend but it was no seaside holiday. Wicks Head Coach Craig Morrison had a rigorous schedule of rugby-based activities planned for the pre-season camp including an opposed session on Saturday afternoon.

Combining Grade and Colts players, the camp gave the coaches present the opportunity to assess where these players were at with their skill sets as well as with tactical decision-making ability. The sessions required both technical and physical fine-tuning. All players made significant gains in both their execution and more importantly their physical
commitment.

Outstanding moments from the weekend included a land speed record set by Beau Brummell and the seniors enjoying the last laugh, as they should, finishing the combined Colts/Grade opposed session with some very good ball movement and physical dominance, showing "no mercy" to the Colts despite the latter’s determination to beat the old brigade with speed and smart decision making.

Lighter moments included the bonding-session on the trip into camp denying new players a seat at the back of the bus and a well-deserved dinner on Saturday night at Empire Bay, sharing a few cleansers with Grant Mould and the locals.
Chris Miller reminded  his city cousins  that country boys really do have the best manners  exemplified by his
gentlemanly behavior  on the dance floor.

Sunday morning had the boys out on the field with a heavy conditioning work-out and defence hit-up before heading
home to Brook St.

Special thanks to the 1st grade and second grade coaches who gave up their time on the weekend along with Colts
Coordinator Jayson Brewer and Patron Jeffrey Sayle. The camp was declared a great success allowing players and
coaches to focus on the start of the season. Bring on 2011!   Thanks also to weekend hosts Paul Briggs and his
wife for their warm hospitality. Photos from camp.....

"The 2011 Little Black Dress Fun Run"

If the Woodies can do it so can the Wicks!  Support "The 2011 Little Black Dress Fun Run", proudly supported by SX,
will be held from 9am-12pm on Saturday, February 19. Now in its 10th year, the LBD Run raises much-needed funds for Camp Goodtime – a project based at the Sydney Children’s Hospital for children living with HIV. Last year the four
kilometre run, the creation of the Sydney Frontrunners, raised $21,000 for this worthy cause through the “fabulous,
fun and sometimes frilly event”. “If people want to help raise money they can just go to the event page page:
http://littleblackdress2011.gofundraise.com.au . Without the Camp, many families feel isolated and find it difficult
to cope.  Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation chief executive Adam Check say the LBD Run plays a vital role.
“The LBD Run is a great example of how our supporters in the community get together in support of the kids at Sydney  Children’s Hospital, Randwick,” We encourage everyone to get on their LBD and have fun in the LBD Run while helping the kids!” For more information, go to www.sydneyfrontrunners.org

For the eagle-eyed one who can first spot Woodie Hugh Perrett in this snap, catch Tony Lewis who’ll shout a pint!  Even better, join Hugh tomorrow in your best LBD.
