DARWIN HOTTEST 7'S Darwin’s Hottest 7s and Festival of Rugby 2011 featured national and academy teams in addition to teams from Premier rugby clubs including Randwick. A relatively young Galloping Greens side, boosted by a sprinkling of experienced players, improved dramatically with every game.

Randwick went down in the opening matches to national representative teams and players including the Fijian Drifters (Fiji’s national team) and Darwin Olympic who defeated the Aussie Thunder (aka the Australian 7s squad) in the quarter final, but overcame Subiaco, the Wanneroo Roo Dogs and Darwin Dingoes to stake their place in the Plate Final. Regrettably they were hunted down by the Brumbies’ academy side Western Wolfpack who overcame Randwick’s speed and stepping to win 19-7. The standard of the Darwin 7s is very good and to be a club team not only competing but also contesting the plate final, is a great achievement for Randwick. Randwick will next be competing in the Queanbeyan Sevens on 19 February and the Kiama Sevens on 26 February. These festival style rugby tournaments are fabulous spectator entertainment. Come along and support the Galloping Greens at Taylor Park and the Kiama Showground. The 39th Annual Kiama Rugby Sevens First games at 8.30am and final at 6.30pm.
