23rd January 2011 The youthful Randwick Rugby 7s team have had a difficult first day. The standard of competition is extremely high. Most teams in the main draw are either National or high quality invitation sides. The Fijian National 7s team preparing for the Wellington 7s defeated Randwick 40-0. It was a gutsy performance where our inexperience let us down at crucial times. The score did not reflect the effort by Randwick as Fiji scored a number of tries against the run of play where we were guilty of kicking ball away or turning it over. Danny Kroll had a very impressive defensive game. The earlier games this morning Randwick struggled against an invitation team from Darwin. The score reflected the dominance of the opposition 26-5 loss for Randwick. The opposition team included players from a number of different countries. The last of the evening was crucial for today's draw. In the last game of the day for Randwick at the Hottest 7's, coach Morrison selected a youthful team against the Darwin Dingo's. Dominic Bower showed why there is no substitute for speed and scored two outstanding tries in his outing. Ethan Ford, another young colts players scored a fine try. He has played well in all games. A new player to Randwick, Anaru Matthews showed raw strength and power. This group was complimented by great support from MacKay and Tovey. Randwick will be participating in the plate finals today. |
