Mark Ella back to help the Greens gallop

FORMER Wallabies captain and five-eighth Mark Ella will return to where it all began when he becomes backs coach of Randwick next year.  Ella, one of the game's greatest five-eighths, will assist former Galloping Greens teammate John Maxwell, who has been appointed first-grade coach. Along with brothers Glen and Gary, Ella revolutionised rugby in the early 1980s, spearheading Randwick to five consecutive Sydney club premierships. Ella played 25 Tests, 10 as captain, before retiring at 25 years of age after the historic 1984 grand slam tour of Britain and Ireland. A columnist with The Weekend Australian, Ella has had coaching experience with the Australian Sevens team, Italian club Milan and Japan.
"It is fantastic to have Mark Ella come back to Sydney and once again be part of Randwick rugby," Randwick general manager Tony Lewis said. "The experience he brings will be of great assistance to extending the Randwick style of rugby with the new generation of Randwick players."
