RANDWICK RUGBY HALL OF FAME LEGENDS RECOGNISED AT IRB'S ANNUAL AWARDS

Tuesday, 25 October 2011 18:54

Randwick Rugby luminaries Sir Nicholas Shehadie and Bob Dwyer were honoured at the 2011 International Rugby Board's annual awards function with induction into the IRB Hall of Fame. Former Wallabies Captain Sir Nicholas Shehadie was recognised for his contribution to the game and particularly for being instrumental in the creation of the Rugby World Cup in 1987. 1991 Rugby World Cup winning coach Bob Dwyer, 1999 RWC winning coach Rod McQueen, Australia's first RWC winning Captain Nick Farr-Jones and former IRB chairman, NSWRU and ARU President, the late Dr Roger Vanderfield, were similarly recognised for their services to rugby.
The inclusion of these past and present Australian rugby legends takes the total number of Australians in the IRB's Hall of Fame to six, following the 2007 induction of 1999 Rugby World Cup winning Wallabies captain, John Eales.
George Smith was awarded the IRPA Special Merit Award and Radike Samo was recognised for the IRPA Try of the Year.
