RDRUFC 2011 Player Awards Presentation

Tuesday, 11 October 2011 12:52

The Randwick Rugby Football Club Player Awards were held on Saturday 8 October at the licensed club. The day was a great success with 400 players, supporters, members, coaches, managers and sponsors jammed into the club to celebrate the success of the playing group in 2011.
One of the highlights was the presentation of the Aiden Wilson Memorial Colts Clubman of the Year to John Weatherall by Aiden's father. He spoke of the love Aiden had for the Randwick Rugby club.

The individual winners were presented with Randwick Rugby Football medals that included club crest and the individual recipient award.

The afternoon started off with a presentation by the General Manager Tony Lewis to Di Long, our dedicated and long serving physiotherapist and life member to thank her and her assistants for another season. Then club President Anthony Bell welcomed our supporters, players and sponsors.

Randwick Rugby coaches and managers of all teams were presented with a ‘Hall of Fame' Randwick Rugby tie. Tom Weber (Club Captain), Craig Morrison (Club Coach) and Michael Radziowsky (Colts Manager) gave presentations to the audience before the winners of each group were presented to the audience to be presented with their medals.
Bob Outterside, club legend and Hall of Fame inductee in 2011, presented the Bill Outterside award to Shaun Foley and spoke to the playing group about Randwick Rugby and how the supporters are passionate supporters of the players, teams and the club.
Our President thanked the Randwick Rugby 2011 sponsors for their incredible support. The sponsors include Peter's of Kensington, Girvan Waugh, Body Science, AllightSykes, Royal Randwick Fruit Market, Sydney City Motor Group, NG Farah, Taylor Woodings, MLC Advice Randwick, Cartwright Insurance, Divcall, Grinners Catering, Vachie Teamwear, Coogee Café, Eastside Physiotherapy, Wireless2Way, Salmat, Beirsdorf, Walsh's Pharmacy, Pattons, ATF and Computer Associates.
Most importantly Anthony also expressed sincere thanks to all coaches and managers at Randwick Rugby Club, particularly acknowledging their volunteer assistance throughout the 2011 season - the group included Danny Grant, Damian Ryan, Chris Coleman, Andrew Bloxsom, Gary Munday, John Maxwell, Jeffrey Sayle, Damian Cahill, Ben Rutherford, Bill Davies, Ray Jennings, Jayson Brewer, Keith Holmes, John Delaney, Penne Te Hira, Michael Michaels, Vlad Savovsky, Ben Meyers, Nathan McMahon, Emanuel (Manny) Kaissis, Tony (Tones) Palmier and Briant (Bri) Kareroa, Terry McMahon, Brad Bishop, Barry Quinn, Allen Stutchbury, Ross Curtis, Peter Meagher, Dave Habler, Ian Holder, Keith Holmes and Michael Radziowsky.

Finally a special mention of a club volunteer who behind the scene works daily on the production of all statistical information - Doug Alexander was acknowledged and thanked.

There was some interesting data about the trophies presented to the audience:-
1. Laurie Augue Memorial Trophy - Laurie (Life Member) who coached 3rd grade from 1957 for 11 years. Every team he coached reached the finals. He coached the 1963/ 65/ 66 3rd grade teams to premierships.
2. C.H. Towers Trophy - Cyril - Randwick Hall of Fame inductee. Coached in the lower grades and was famous for enforcing that no player should drop a ball. Commentators around the world state he was "one of the greatest centres to have graced the game".
3. Ron Don Memorial - Most Improved - Ron was Bill Davies', 5th grade coach, Uncle and was a "dedicated Randwick supporter/official" for the club over many decades - he is also remembered as the official time-keeper.
4. Dick Quinlan Memorial Trophy - 4th grade. Dick was a former 4th grade player and for many years was ‘President of Randwick Central Juniors'.
