Jeffrey Sayle - Afloat for Rugby World Cup

What more can this legend do? Jeffrey Sayle has been nominated by the RDRUFC council for the ARU Volunteer of the Year. He did not win but has received a ticket/s including flights, etc to World Cup quarter and semi-finals.   Staying on a 5 star cruise liner, Jeffrey will no doubt entertain his fellow passengers with the benefit of his vast rugby knowledge. Congratulations Jeffrey on this recognition of your contribution to rugby in Australia and acknowledgment of your valued volunteer activities to support rugby.


What role(s) or area(s) has the nominee fulfilled at the club, school or association level up to and including June 2011?
Jeffery Sayle is the patron of the Randwick Rugby Club. He is a member of the board. Jeffery is the classical volunteer at a rugby club. He coaches the 3rd grade team that currently leds the competition. He was part of the junior representative selection program in 2011 - where he selected under 10, 11, 12 and 14 Randwick junior representative teams. The under 12 team won the NSW State Championship title. Jeffery has been a feature at the Randwick Rugby School gala days in 2011.

Jeffery has organised the grade club BBQ on a Thursday night. He collects the meat, bread, etc and delivers them to training. He is also the liaison person for Randwick when Super 15 teams that train at Latham

Jeffery is also the President of the Randwick Rugby Licensed Club in 2011. He is regularly seen at the club every morning doing the stock take and every Friday morning he ensures the keg lift is complete. The role at the licensed club is massive and totally as a volunteer.

Jeffery is not only a patron, but Randwick Rugby life member, NSW rugby life member and was recently inducted into the Randwick Hall of Fame

Please explain why you feel the nominee's contribution to rugby was exceptional up to and including June 2011?
Jeffery is the exceptional nominee - he is the heart and soul of the rugby club not only does green blood flow through his veins he breathes and lives all things Randwick, NSW and Australian rugby.
Every visitor to Randwick has been touched by Jeffery Sayle, he is sought out and everyone knows of him and has a tale to tell.
If ever there was a person that typifies club rugby in Australia - Jeffery is that, he has given the Randwick Rugby club 50 + years. Jeffery commenced wearing the Randwick myrtle green jersey as an 8 year old in 1950 and retired from playing in 1982. He played 379 games for the club, 167 1st grade games, and winning for four (4) 1st grade grand finals. He played in a number of winning 3rd and 4th grades grand finals. He represented his state NSW and his country Australia in rugby.
His coaching record is impressive - he coached Australia junior age group sides; NSW; and Randwick. He has won seven (7) 1st grade titles as a coach, three reserve grades for a total of 10 premierships.
Jeff has been the heart & soul of Randwick Rugby Club since his school days, playing a near record number of games for the club then progressing on to multiple coaching roles over three decades. In recent years Jeff has done an outstanding job as club president & currently is the club patron. Over 5 decades with the famous Randwick Rugby Club Jeff Sayle has put a lot of enjoyment into thousands of peoples lives. He has been a fantastic mentor to many young men who have joined the club & consistently been the ultimate ambassador to a huge number of visitors to the club. Rugby clubs around the world hold Jeff in high esteem. At the representative level, Jeff has played for the Wallabies & coached highly successful Sydney & NSW teams in the 1980s and 1990s.
