First Grade

Randwick defeated Manly 29 - 25

The team performed excellently on Sunday and caught Manly by surprise from the opening minutes. We used our forward strength upfront and killed the Manly plan with dominance in the forwards and a lucky break in the first few minutes that led to a converted try. Unfortunately for Manly they appeared to have no plan B and the early points on the board lifted the boys resulting in some superb forwardS play. In fact both tries were scored by the forwards!

I had a few nervous moments when our centre Bevu Tuquiri was injured and Patrick Phibbs had to play centre but it all turned out for the best. Special mentions to Toby Browne for his skill at kicking and for booting that last penalty conversion over the posts on the whistle.

 Manly were a formidable opponent and all credit to their efforts on Sunday. It was a very tough and physical game and we enjoyed the challenge they put to us.

Three points to Sekope Kepu for his phenomenal scrummaging, dominant tackling and powerful ball-running charges.

Two points t Lotu Taukeaiho for strong scrummaging and huge work rate in attack and defense.

One point to Ben Mowen for his excellent lineout work and all round huge work rate around the paddock

 It is worth mentioning that a number of other players had huge games and could easily have been man-of-match. Special mention to Patrick Phibbs who had a storming game and Lala Lam who continues to dominate at club rugby.

 We've just had the next sudden death final confirmed as Saturday at Woolhara Oval.

First Grade Colts

1st grade colts unfortunately had their season cut short, one game shy of the grand final, at the hands of a clinical Sydney Uni at Forshaw Park on Saturday. Going into the match full of confidence after sending Easts home in week one of the finals, Uni controlled possession and outmuscled the men in green at ruck time to run away 58-19 winners.
 
Down 34-0 at half-time, the second half was a fight for pride. With several lost opportunities, the final score-line was not a reflection of what could have been a more respectable result. After finishing 2009 in second last spot, all involved in 1st colts can take a great deal out of the 2010 season.
 
Highlights of a successful season include the wins over West Harbour and Southern Districts at Latham Park and the amazing come-from-behind victory over Warringah away from home that kept the hunt for a semi-final spot alive.
 
Good luck to all 4 grades in this week's do or die semi finals and congrats to 5th grade for winning their grand final on Saturday.
